Last summer Giant rider Andi Wittmann introduced a new freeride event in Austria called the Suzuki Nine Knights contest. Andi, who hosted the event, was joined by fellow Giant rider Kurt Sorge and a select group of the sport's top talents who battled it out in a unique contest inspired by the Nine Knights freeskiing event. With the 2012 Nine Knights contest already on the calendar—it's set for August 19-25—here's a look back at some of the action from 2011.

2011-2012 UCI World Cup at London's new velodrome, where the fourth and final round, which also served as a test event for the upcoming Olympic Games, ended as expected with victory for the British team. In the overall rankings for the series, Germany won with 291 points, thanks largely to wins in Astana and Cali. Defending World Cup holders France came second with 247 points, ahead of Australia with 241.

The final assessment of the competitions held in the British capital, where cycling's popularity continues to grow, was extremely positive. The quality of the facilities that will host the Olympic events, the excellent arrangements made by LOCOG and the unique atmosphere of this weekend's competitions in the velodrome give the best possible guarantee of success for the six days that will be devoted to the Olympic track programme.

During the first day of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships on the North Sea coast in Koksijde, Belgium, the favorites lived up to their reputations. The wins in the Junior Men and Men Under 23 categories from Dutchmen Mathieu van der Poel and Lars van der Haar on the sandy course didn't quite come as easy as most expected with Belgians Wout Van Aert and Wietse Bosmans falling just short of a surprise victory.
