In advance of Stage 12 it was announced that Riccardo Ricco tested positive for the third generation form of EPO after stage 4. His team, Saunier Duval, drops out of the 2008 Tour. Ricco had won 2 stages (6 and 9) in this years Tour de France. Also, the teams met and voted to disband the UCI ProTour. Big day new wise, but little for stage 12 with Mark Cavendish taking the stage and no changes in the GC.
